5 Ways Meditation Can Improve Your Quality of Life

Setting aside 5-10 minutes a day to meditate has been proven to have a significant and lasting impact on your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Read below to discover how meditation can have positively impact your quality of life!

Meditation is a state of deep peace that happens when you allow your mind to be silent. Setting aside 5-10 minutes a day to meditate has been proven to have a significant and lasting impact on your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I can confidently say that since meditating on a regular basis, it certainly has on mine, and it has opened my eyes to a new way of life.

Below are a few of my favorite ways you can use meditation to improve your overall quality of life. These are the main benefits I’ve experienced since starting to meditate on a regular basis. However, this list is not an end-all-be-all to what’s possible from implementing mediation into your daily life. So keep an open mind when reading through this list and start to think about new ways meditation could make a positive difference for you!

1. Get A More Restful Sleep

Research has proven that meditation can help you get into, and stay in, a deep restful sleep. Personally, this is one of the biggest benefits I’ve experienced since taking a few minutes each night to meditate before bed.

Meditation helps to quiet your mind, which allows you to relax so you can sleep soundly. There are pre-recorded meditations on Youtube and in free meditation apps like Insight Timer where you can search specifically for restful sleep meditations. I use these regularly when I’m struggling to fall asleep and have found them to be extremely helpful!

2. Start Your Day With An Intention

I’ve never considered myself to be a morning person. In the past, a typical morning would consist of hitting the snooze button about 10 times before finally rolling out of bed, and then zombie-walking to the shower while bumping into a few things here and there.

Then, once the cruel hand of reality finally slapped me awake, my morning would start in a frantic panic. I’d rush to get dressed, grab a pre-packed granola bar for breakfast while running out the door, and arrive to work late, creeping past my boss’s office trying not to get caught.

Fast forward to today, I wake up early before work and set my intention for the day by meditating for 5-10 minutes. Although I still sometimes have to forcibly drag myself from my warm cozy bed, I look forward to waking up in the morning because it’s now a relaxing and enjoyable experience, not a frantic panic.

I’ve found that by doing this, I’m more productive and focused throughout the day. This is because meditation allows you to center yourself and reflect on the day ahead. By setting your intentions first thing in the morning, you’re able to create the day you want, instead of letting life happen to you.

3. Improve Your Mood

I’ve found that spending a few minutes focusing on positive thoughts has made me—wait for it—more positive. Hard to believe, I know, but it’s true.

I firmly believe in the law of attraction, which states that you receive what you give.

If you focus on negative things, you will attract negativity into your life and will most likely be in a bad mood. If you focus on positive things, you will attract positivity into your life and most likely be in a good mood. So by taking a few minutes a day to meditate and focus on positive thoughts, you are setting yourself up to attract positivity and happiness into your life.

And who wouldn’t want more of that?!

4. Reduce Anxiety

Meditation is about turning off the negative chatter that creates anxiety by breathing and letting go. Anytime anxiety rears its ugly head, you can use mediation to get into a better mindset. Taking a few deep breaths and sitting in silence for a few moments may be all you need to calm any anxious nerves.

5. Connect With Yourself

When I first started meditating, one of the most difficult things to do was to sit quietly with my own thoughts. I knew myself from the outside in, from the labels I wore like fashionable accessories, trying to be what I thought others expected of me.

There was a disconnection between who I was and who I thought I should be. However, when you sit in silence without external distractions, your inner dialogue is difficult to ignore. The inner voice in your head gets louder; it’s almost like it’s screaming at you! Meditation has a way of making you more mindful of your thoughts, feelings, and sense of who you are. It’s easier to create a life of happiness if you are able to connect with your authentic self. It’s a way for you to get to know yourself, from the inside out.
